Yesterday this wonderful little blog saw over 600 readers. This past month it has seen 15,000! It has been growing so fast. Sometimes I forget how many are reading because so few of you comment or respond. This might explain why when my Mother who lives far away mentioned over the phone that she reads my blog that I was rather shocked. Turns out my little sister does as well. Add to this that my step mother joined facebook yesterday and I am left feeling rather odd. Is it was it weird for you when your parents or children got online and started to see your internet life? I know that for some it has been.
So lets take a moment to giggle at my uncomfortableness yesterday on facebook shall we. I see the friend request and of course accept it. I go to my wall to welcome my Step Mother to facebook only to see my wall had 3 posts on it with huge pictures all including the word VAGINA. If you have been living in a cave this week then you don’t know the news that Michigan State Rep Mike Callton (R) Silenced Michigan State Rep Lisa Brown when she used the word Vagina saying it was offensive. There is a bit of outrage over it as this Rep and many republicans want to make laws about what a woman can do with her Vagina but do not want a women to use the word. I find it ironic and I also find it rather funny as I find irony that so many online are now shouting the word. Not however so funny when I know my parents are going to see such language on my page. Not because it is offensive but does any child/parent want to talk about private parts together? Add to that a few other very liberal things and I had myself wondering if I really should be posting such things if I would not want my parents seeing them in the first place. -sigh- It is not that I think I am wrong to do so but because I know my parents have other views and I wish not to create conflict you know? I do not want to make them uncomfortable. But darn it we must stand up for VAGINAs. (Hi Mom! LOL)
Later in the day as I mentioned I found out my Mother and other family members read this blog. It is a great way to keep up with what is going on with the Grandbabies but I had felt like this was my own little personal secret place. Or not to secret. A place where I did not have to worry about offending anyone I might know because I simply do not agree with them. An example would be having to spend the day with someone one is related to listening to them bad mouth another family member for co-sleeping or some such, so I bite my tongue, get home, and post all about how wonderful such things are here and I feel better, and I avoid conflict too because honestly one has to live with relatives for a long time and because of my raising even if an elder is wrong, I am squeamish to tell them so.
So what to do, what to do. Does one filter ones self in hopes of not upsetting a parent or child or? I think I am just going to have to keep being myself and deal with what may come. I mean, so far so good actually. I just worry, I really dislike disappointing my parentals or siblings. I also however really dislike filtering. LOL
In closing, I am not sure how you all deal with parents and children online. I personally can only hope I do not embarrass you too much Mom and that dear sister does not want to hide under a rock for having a big sister that is such a big tree hugging, kid crazy, liberal writer.
(P.S. Sister you will be happy to know I got my first big girl purse that is not made at a discount place or on Etsy. I will show you in August at your Wedding. Love you all!)
(P.S.S. Mom, you can’t smack me from that far away for the cursing I may let fly here, but I do hope when I get to see you next that you will have forgotten about such things! hehehe Love you!)
